Corten was originally used to denote the two main properties of the material: 'corrosion' and 'tensile', which ironically means that when it rusts, the surface rust forms a protective layer against rusting (if that makes sense); and tensile, which has a minimum yield strength of 350 MPa and a tensile strength of 450 MPa.
